Himalayan Society of Geoscientists
India

The Himalayan Society of Geoscientists (HSG), India, is a professional organization dedicated to advancing geoscience research and collaboration in the Himalayan region. It was established in 2023 and it brings together geologists, engineering geologists, geophysicists, researchers, professionals, and students to promote scientific exchange and interdisciplinary research. The Society organizes conferences, workshops, seminars, and field excursions to enhance understanding of Himalayan geology, tectonics, geohazards, natural resources, and environmental sustainability. HSG also supports young scientists through training and networking opportunities. By enhancing scientific excellence and collaboration, the Society contributes to disaster risk reduction, sustainable development, and improved understanding of the complex Himalayan mountain system.

Nepal Society of Engineering Geology
Nepal

The Nepal Society of Engineering Geology (NSEG) is a national professional organization dedicated to advancing engineering geology and promoting the application of geosciences for sustainable infrastructure development and disaster risk reduction in Nepal. Established in 2018, which is also a National group of IAEG. NSEG brings together engineering geologists, geologists, researchers, academics, students, and industry professionals to foster scientific collaboration and professional excellence. The Society organizes conferences, workshops, lectures, training programs, and field excursions while publishing the Asian Journal of Engineering Geology (AJEG). Through national and international partnerships, NSEG contributes to capacity building, geohazard mitigation, engineering geological research, and the sustainable development of Nepal’s mountainous environment.

It is a great honor and privilege to welcome you to the First Indo-Nepal Joint Symposium on Engineering Geology (INJSEG 2026), jointly organized by the Himalayan Society of Geoscientists (HSG), India, and the Nepal Society of Engineering Geology (NSEG), Nepal.

The Himalaya is a shared geological system that connects our two countries through common landscapes, resources, and challenges. Rapid infrastructure development, increasing geological hazards, and the impacts of climate change demand stronger regional collaboration and the exchange of scientific knowledge to promote safer and more sustainable development across the Himalayan region.

The theme, “Silent Forces of Nature and Growing Risk in the Himalayan Region,” reflects the importance of understanding the hidden geological processes that influence natural hazards and infrastructure resilience. INJSEG 2026 provides an excellent platform for researchers, engineers, professionals, and young scientists from Nepal, India, and beyond to exchange ideas, share experiences, and build lasting scientific partnerships.I sincerely hope this inaugural symposium marks the beginning of a long-standing collaboration between our professional societies and contributes significantly to advancing engineering geology and geo-hazard research in the Himalaya. On behalf of the organizing committee, I warmly invite you to join us in Kathmandu and look forward to meeting you at INJSEG 2026.

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the First Indo-Nepal Joint Symposium on Engineering Geology (INJSEG 2026), jointly organized by the Nepal Society of Engineering Geology (NSEG), Nepal, and the Himalayan Society of Geoscientists (HSG), India. The symposium will be held in Kathmandu, Nepal, on 11–12 October 2026, in conjunction with the 4th National Engineering Geology Day (NEG Day).

The Himalaya is one of the world’s most dynamic mountain systems, where active tectonics, climate change, and rapid infrastructure development continue to create significant engineering geological challenges. As neighboring Himalayan countries, Nepal and India share many of these challenges, making scientific collaboration and knowledge exchange more important than ever.

With the theme “Silent Forces of Nature and Growing Risk in the Himalayan Region,” INJSEG 2026 aims to bring together researchers, professionals, policymakers, and young scientists to discuss emerging geo-hazards, resilient infrastructure, and sustainable mountain development. We hope this symposium will serve as a long-term platform for strengthening Indo–Nepal cooperation in engineering geology and related disciplines. On behalf of the organizing committee, I warmly invite you to participate in INJSEG 2026 and contribute to this important scientific gathering. I look forward to welcoming you to Kathmandu for two days of insightful discussions, professional networking, and collaborative learning.
